Recertification Points for Education Programs

Certain education programs may be eligible for recertification points. To be eligible, the content must be related to the CPS and CAP examination outline, and must be at least one-hour in length.

To have a chapter or division education program reviewed for possible recertification points, submit the following to the certification department at least two weeks prior to the program:

  • Completed Recertification Program Application
  • Include on the application:

1.  Biographical information on speaker(s)
2.
Outline of program, topics to be covered, and time frames.

If recertification points are approved for the event, you will receive an original recertification certificate, which may be reproduced and given to each active CPS and/or CAP holder in attendance. There is no charge for recertification approval.

Allow 2-3 weeks for the recertification approval process.

If approval is given, how many recertification points will apply?

One point per contact hour, as shown by the following example:
1 contact hour = 1 recertification point
10 contact hours = 10 recertification points

The following form is in Word fill-in format:

 Recertification Program Application

Applying for CEU and having the program reviewed for recertification points are two separate processes. (Not all programs approved for CEU are applicable for recertification.) All CEU questions and applications should be directed to the CEU registrar in the education and professional development department.

The Key to Continued Professionalism

Professional certification

attests to the competence of those in a given profession. To ensure maintenance of these high standards, periodic reassessment is used to verify that competencies are maintained. For IAAP certification, that reassessment is accomplished through a program of recertification.

Recertification is required every five years to keep their professional certification status. Points are earned in the categories of continuing Education, Other Certifications, and Leadership. A total of 60 points are required every five years.

The IAAP certification makes a powerful statement of both meeting initial high standards and maintaining those standards through recertification.

All individuals who applied for certification January 1, 1988, or later are required to recertify.

Individuals not keeping current through recertification will have their rating marked inactive and are no longer eligible to use the ratings.

A certificate, valid for five years, and a recertification pin will be issued each time an individual is recertified.
